Challenges and Alliances in PSI&T Research and Practice
3rd International Conference on Public Service Interpreting & Translating & 7th International Conference on Translation
The Training and Research Group on Public Service Translation and Interpreting (FITISPos) at the University of Alcalá (UAH) (Madrid, Spain) are pleased to announce the 3rd International Conference on Public Service Interpreting & Translating (& 7th International Conference on Translation) to be hosted at the UAH, on the 24th and 25th of April 2008.
This conference is intended to offer PSI&T researchers, practitioners, trainers, academics, public service authorities and people interested in intercultural communication a forum for dialogue and exchange of views and experiences like the previous ones held in 2002 & 2005.
Being the main theme of the 2008 Conference Challenges and Alliances
in PSI&T Research and Practice, the main purpose is to generate
discussion on such issues as:
1. Research and methodology in PSI&T
2. The influence of research results in policies, regulations
and practices in PSI&T
3. The relationships between practitioners and academics
4. Practice as a source of data
5. Research as a path to improve the quality of practice
6. The position of PSI&T in Interpreting and Translation
Studies
The Conference will include plenary lectures, papers, seminars and
round tables. Participants delivering papers will have a maximum of
30 mn (the discussion/questions time included). The official
languages will be Spanish and English.
Practitioners, trainers and academics interested in participating
are kindly asked to send a 200-word abstract before November 30,
2007 by e.mail (with the abstract included, not attached) to:

The abstract must be sent together with the registration sheet,
which can be downloaded at:

The host's selection decision will be communicated to the
proposers by December 10, 2007, together with information on
registration procedure, accommodation and publication guidelines.
Proposers whose papers are approved will have to submit
the whole paper text (PC Word 6.0, both on floppy disk and printed
out) by 20 January 2008, otherwise they could not be included in the
CD proceedings.
